.. And it comes out this March!!! ‘Star Wars’ was just a smokescreen to distract us from the ‘Cloverfield’ sequel’s production!
There were 2 distinct camps when ‘Cloverfield’ was released in 2008.. Those who loved it and those who HATED it. While it may not have lived up to the promise of that phenomenal first trailer and/or the initial images we saw, I still was very much in the loved it camp.
Remember in 2008 JJ could do no wrong, ‘Lost’ was flying high, ‘Into Darkness’ wasn’t even on the horizon yet and ‘Cloverfield’ was just straight up cool. A found footage Kaiju movie that had about a million Easter eggs and hours of online content to pour through. It was an experience and I enjoyed and embraced every second of it. A big part of the films allure for me, and many others, was how closely guarded the film was, in a world where almost everything is spoiled online months before films are released ‘Cloverfield’ was seemingly spoiler proof.. we knew it wasn’t going to be a great day for the Statue of Liberty (see above) but aside from that the film was a real mystery. That’s whats happening again.
’10 Cloverfielnd Lane’ is the quasi-sequel to ‘Cloverfield’ seemingly no one knew was even in the works let alone finished and ready for release in just 2 short months. There was no buzz of a trailer coming, possible spoilers, synopsis, nothing.. just here you go! We made a movie, it comes out in March. Oh, and it looks AWESOME..
BOOM! You’re not alone.
Before you comb the internet for ‘..that awesome cover of ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ from the Cloverfield 2 trailer..” here it is.. with the note that actually Tiffany’s 80’s mall tour anthem is actually the cover. The original from 1967 by Tommy James & The Shondells is the version heard in the trailer.
March also features the release of Batman vs Superman.. 2016 rules for movies.
