You’d never guess Alessia Cara was on her first headlining tour from the way she took to the stage at The Danforth Music Hall.
The rapidly-rising star performed to a sold-out crowd at the esteemed venue, the first of two shows in Toronto. She blazed her way through her 12-track debut album Know-It-All, opening with future hits “I’m Yours” and “Wild Things” and ending the night on a high note with her smash single “Here” and an exhilarating encore performance of “My Song”. Throughout the hour-long set, Cara displayed her impressive vocal chops and natural performance abilities, transitioning seamlessly from uptempo anthems to piano-led ballads. Proving that she didn’t need a high-budget production to put on a fantastic show, she confidently owned the stage as she sang and danced with the crowd.
That’s not to say the show ran without faults – she missed her cue on “Seventeen” and had to forfeit her guitar during “Stone” due to technical difficulties – but she carried on like a complete pro. More importantly, her rapport with the crowd was undeniable. She managed to establish a real connection to the audience, and there was no doubt by the end of the night that she had left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.
2015 was already a huge year for the Brampton-born star, and 2016 is sure to be even bigger as the Know-It-All Tour continues.
