GOOD IDEA –
Being excited about the confirmation of gravity waves. Earlier this week physicists and researchers involved with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory or Ligo for short, confirmed the existence of gravity waves. Something that Albert Einstein himself predicted a hundred years ago.
What does this mean? How does this affect you.
It doesn’t REALLY right now. You’re not about to see anti-gravity thrusters on cars or spaceships anytime soon, but it will lead to a lot of cool discoveries in the coming years.
Exploration. Everything we know about the observable universe is dependent on light. We use telescopes and radio waves to see what’s out there and map the stars. We make calculation based on that data about what’s out there, but it’s all light dependent. NOW we can observe the universe by way of gravity waves and distortions in gravity. Meaning that in the coming years we could see a MASSIVE amount of data roll in about the observable universe, our own solar system. and even inside black holes themselves … so theoretically we can see the beginning of time itself!
TIME TRAVEL! That’s right, there have been theories suggested that by using gravity waves and distorting them we should be able to travel back in time. Because these gravity waves actually distort the fabric of time and space itself … but that distortion is VERY small … like not even as wide as an atom small. So we’re still a way’s away from that.
FASTER THAN LIGHT TRAVEL! Like Hyper drives, the kind you saw in star Wars. Yes once again theorists have speculated that using gravity waves it can be possible to travel faster than the speed of light … but that’s pretty far away too.
The point is, this is a first step. And when Einstein predicted Gravity waves existed people rolled their eyes. But he was right. They exist. So when people roll their eyes about stuff like this and go, why should I care? They’re no better. Cause our kids, and our grand kids could be zipping around the universe or through time, and we’ll be feeling like morons for not realizing the significance of what was done to get there TODAY.
It’s always wise to be on the RIGHT side of history. If you’re interested, I’ve got some cool info on it below …
I thought that video was pretty dope … but here are a bunch of links …
