A fake Canadian tourism website has lead to serious interest from Americans wanting to escape Donald Trump. The site was launched on Monday posing as an advertisement for Cape Breton as a ‘refugee’ island for U.S. citizens.
The surprising (or not so surprising) reaction has spread to legitimate tourist site Destination Cape Breton. Distraught Americans wanting to “get the hell out” have been sending personal inquiries about seeking refuge on some sort of distant Canadian island called Cape Breton.
30, 000 people have already visited the site, a third of which went to the real Cape Breton tourism site. CBC reports the legit website has had 12,000 American hits compared to 1,000 at the same time a year ago. They’ve been asking about immigration and what to expect in Cape Breton.
Sydney radio host Rob Calabrese set it up, promising a place where tolerance, diversity, healthcare, and affordable housing can be found for escaping Americans.
If only this paradise existed…
