Thinking Ryan Reynolds is saying anything new about women and super hero movies. In case you missed it, Ryan Reynolds was doing an interview top promote Deadpool the other day and said that it’s annoying the way movie studios feel the need to find a romance angle to market a super hero movie to women. He goes on to say that women like super hero movies just the way they are. That’s why they go to them.
He’s not wrong, in fact he’s 100% right. Women do love super hero movies. So do men, in fact everyone does, that’s why comic book inspired movies continue to be the biggest box office money maker every summer, and why they’ll continue to to be in the coming years.
But what kind of makes me scratch my head is, why is this getting headlines? It’s something that the vast majority of people think.
It’s getting a little tiring seeing people look for gender related controversy. You know how psychologists tell you that relationships are getting more complicated because of the way people over share every detail of their lives on social media, and how it’s having tremendous negative repercussions? The same thing is happening to inter gender relations.
If you don’t like a movie with a female lead, you’re a misogynist. If you don’t like a movie with a male lead, you’re a misandrist. Or maybe you’re not. Maybe you just like what you like, and that’s just fine. But this knee jerk reaction people have nowadays is creating a lot more problems than it will ever solve.
