Here’s a tough one: I want you define what it means to be a “punk” band. But be careful. Punk is one of those words that means different things to different people—and these differences can start fights.
Some analysis was done on thousands of playlists people from around the world created on Spotify with the word “punk” in the title. The inference is that if the playlist title used the word “punk,” then the creator considered the acts on the playlist to be punk acts.
Using this criteria, which band was considered “punk” by more than any other? Green Day. They were followed by Blink-182, The Offspring, Sum 41 and Rise Against. But if you go further down the list, you’ll run into Good Charlotte, Panic! At the Disco, the Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Foo Fighters, Simple Plan, Slipknot and, er, Limp Bizkit. Punk is obviously in the ear of the beholder, right?
