BAD IDEA –
Being shocked that more than half of Millennials out there are unhappy with their current job. They cite reasons like low pay, lack of fulfillment, lack of promotion opportunities and every other expected reason. But these affects are compounded by high debt, mainly student loans.
I agree, post secondary is ridiculously expensive. It’s too expensive, and if we as a county want to ensure we maintain our place on the global stage as an enlightened country we should be finding ways to ensure higher education is attainable. And for the record I’m not just talking about University, I’m talking about trade schools and the like. But trade schools, as expensive as they are aren’t really the problem.
Ya know why. Your employment opportunities when you finish school ready to be a pipe fitter or a welder are a lot more prevalent than when you finish a masters degree in existential philosophy. I’m not saying one is better than the other, just that one is cheaper and gets you a job, whereas the other one means you’ll have lots of witty quotes to put on coffee cups when you wind up working at Starbucks because the big philosophy factory has yet to open.
This is frustrating, because we need thinkers, we do. But NOTHING is stopping you from working as a refrigeration technician, and pursuing an education in gender studies part time without having to dig a massive hole of debt. But that’s hard, man. I shouldn’t have to do that. That’s life, man! That’s the way it is.
You want something get it. Make it happen. Find a way, don’t whine about how unsatisfied you are with your life because you’re too goddamn lazy to change it.
