One band that’s been having a really good run over the last year has been Twenty-One Pilots. Who are these guys?
First of all, they’re from Columbus, Ohio, and feature just two guys: frontman Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. Things started for them about four years ago—and their beginnings were very humble.
They used to hawk tickets from a table in the food court at a local mall. The name “Twenty-One Pilots” was taken from a play by Arthur Miller entitled All My Sons, which involves an airplane parts scandal that ends with the death of 21 pilots.
Tyler is quite the basketball player. He turned down a university scholarship so he could concentrate on music.
And this is interesting: both guys came from conservative Christian households where video games and most music was banned. Josh says he had to keep his copy of Green Day’s Dookie hidden under his bed.
