“Join the Band”
RIYL: Ladyhawk, Joel Plaskett, the Constantines
Canadian singer-songwriter Shotgun Jimmie dropped this single from his forthcoming album, “Field of Trampolines”. The song is a jangly, lo-fi tune that’s perfect for summer drives and hanging out. Recorded off of his cross-Canada tour last summer, the tune captures all the great summer vibes.
The Dirty Nil
RIYL: The Arkells, The Descendants, PUP, Single Mothers
The Dirty Nil released their much-awaited debut album, “Higher Power”, on February 25th. The Hamilton rockers have been honing their blend of punk, alt-rock and lo-fi for 5 years with the release of many singles and EP’s. The first single off the album, “No Weaknesses” is a small taste catch, and energetic LP.
RIYL: Best Coast, Dick Dale, The Vaselines
The new single “Door”, from New York City surf-rockers, High Waisted, is an excellent low-key surf-track with beautiful 50’s-esque pop vocals and guitars that sound straight out of California or Hawaii. “Door” is the second single off of the band’s self-released debut album, “On Ludlow”.
RIYL: Johnny Reid, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young
This Calgary based singer-songwriter will be accompanying the release of his debut EP, “The E.P.”, by opening for Johnny Reid on his cross-Canada tour. This live rendition of a track from the E.P. is a soulful, and melodic serving of heartland rock.
RIYL: Ken Mode, Metz, Fugazi, Speedy Ortiz
Toronto noise-rockers, Greys, just released a single from their freshly announced sophomore album, “Outer Heaven”. The track, “No Star”, sees the band moving from the noise and aggression that marked their earlier releases to a more subdued, experimental space-rock sound, while still maintaining all of the energy.
