Knowing we have a childcare problem in this town … we do. Ask ANYONE who has kids that works, they’re gonna tell you. Childcare can cost around 35 hundred bucks a month … but that’s IF you can find it. That’s a problem. We can’t expect people to work and feed themselves if there’s no way for them to get someone to look after their kids while they do it.
It can seem like a very easy problem to forget about. If you don’t have kids how does this affect you? Well you know how they say idle hands are a devil’s play thing, it’s true. You could look at as many studies as you want and they’ll all tell you kids that are ignored have a much higher chance of “at risk behaviors.” Basically that dick teenager that broke into your car and stole the coffee money from your ashtray probably didn’t get enough attention when he was younger.
Something else that winds up happening when childcare is hard to find? You get illegal under the table day cares. These places are EVERYWHERE! And there’s a reason. The demand is everywhere. If you wanna stop something from happening, take away the demand. You expect someone who takes the TTC in from Brampton every day to be paying 3000 a month for childcare when she barely makes that cleaning office towers downtown? Not happening. It’s silly to think you can stop it when that’s the environment you’ve created.
If we keep going on how important it is to get everyone working and make the economy prosper, maybe we need to ensure we’re making it possible for everyone to work … unless they wanna re institute child labour … that could solve all our problems!
