Poverty is an ongoing issue across the world.
Here in Canada we’re taking the next step towards eliminating it.
Ontario’s provincial budget included money for a basic income pilot project.
The “basic income project” or “basic income guarantee” would essentially give people who make under a certain amount of money enough to meet basic needs.
Ontario isn’t the only place that’s trying this out as similar projects are under way in the Netherlands, Finland and France.
Some of the main concerns seem to be that people will get lazy and not want to work if they’re just being given a certain amount of money every month.
That wasn’t the case when Canada experimented with this back in the 70’s.
It will be interesting to see how this works out.
What do you think of a basic income guarantee?
