The police are busy with a very important criminal investigation…about a ‘threat’ to the Ted Rogers statue. A Jays fan, Nicholas Kharshoum tweeted in regards to Bautista‘s contract demands; “F–king pay the man or I’m throwing the Ted Rogers statue in the harbour you pieces of s–t.”
And later, “Swear to f–k that the Ted Rogers statue is getting decimated. F–k Rogers. You don’t know sports. @Rogers @BlueJays.”
It was obviously a joke, used to express his support for Jose. But police took the threat seriously enough to show up at Kharshoum’s door. Rogers Communications owns the Jays, and the precious statue. They called the cops, who set the ‘cybercrimes’ unit into motion.
Really? Is there really nothing else they could be doing with their time. Like maybe protecting human beings instead of bronze statues…How many threats to real people receive much less attention? An inanimate object that resembles Ted Rogers is evidently more important to Toronto’s law enforcement some of the time.
I must confess. I've suggested much worse things be done to the Ted Rogers statue. Just never on Twitter. How's that different?— Chirpy McChirpson (@bluejayschirps) March 13, 2016
