GOOD IDEA –
Getting amped up about the 2017 Invictus Games. If you don’t know what they are, don’t feel bad. They tend to get very little press despite being pretty cool.
It’s a massive sporting event for service men and women from around the globe who have left the battle field sick or wounded. This is pretty close to my heart. Cause my father was involved in a pretty hairy situation while on a Peacekeeping Assignment in Haiti in 1996. He and four other men were attacked, robbed and left for dead, my father lived, three others did not. I saw the recovery both psychological and physical. And you know what was a HUGE turning point for him?
Softball. Softball. The following spring my father was getting use of his arms back and playing softball was a HUGE boon to his psyche and his physical recovery. So I can attest that this is AWESOME for everyone involved, and it’s something we as a city need to get behind.
These people went places and did things none of us wanted to. They experienced things we see in nightmares. The least we can do is welcome them as Toronto the Good and cheer them on along the road to recovery. Invictus 2017 in Toronto, support it.
