GOOD IDEA –
Knowing when you should just relax and take a breath. Yesterday was a weird day. We woke up hearing about explosions and death in Belgium. It was kind of surreal in that we’ve been hearing about these things a lot over the past few months, to the point you’re kind of like “oh. Another one.”
Then later on Rob Ford dies. That one actually had me feeling like a bit of a heel. I made a lot of jokes at his expense. His foibles in front of cameras and microphones.
We all did. It was just something that Torontonians united in, our jokes about Rob Ford, some people were a bit more mean spirited and personal than others … but even the ardent Ford-ite was known to make light of the guy.
But maybe it was just the already sombre mood, cause when I read that story about his passing I was just sitting there like a bag of jerk feeling bad. Cause he was a human. A father and a brother, and he had people he cared for. He had wishes, and hopes and dreams and loves, and they weren’t mine. They might not have been yours either, but do they mean less cause his life had a bit of circus-like nature to it in his last few years? No.
He was a man. And for all his flaws will be missed. Along with the rest of people we lost yesterday.
