The Tom DeLonge-era of Blink-182 is officially done.
The band has announced that a new album, with Matt Skiba (of Alkaline Trio) filling in on guitar, will be released, and the first single will be out in April. This will be the first album since 2011’s Neighbourhood, and the first without Delonge.
Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker split from their former frontman, back in 2015, in a very public feud. It had seemed that all the small things had added up for the group. The original trio had planned on recording a new album, but DeLonge’s manager informed the group that he did not wish to proceed. And like a bad break-up, each member felt like they had to voice their frustrations. Mark and Travis went to Rolling Stone, Tom took to his Facebook page. Things got pretty ugly.
Matt Skiba, formerly of Alkaline Trio, hooked up with Hoppus and Barker back in the Summer of 2015 for a short string of tour dates. He seemed quite natural in his role, and hopefully means good things for the album.
Luckily for Blink fans, with Hoppus and Barker leading the charge, we should be in good hands.
