Getting defensive. Yesterday in Scarborough a dog attacked a child. It grabbed the kid by the throat and needed to be shot by police to save the kid’s life.
The dog was a pitbull. I didn’t need to tell you it was a pitbull. You already knew. And the fact that people immediately get defensive going “Why does the breed matter?” pisses me off.
Take your emotions out of it and look at the stats. If the dog breed is involved in more attacks than other breeds, if it’s known to be hyper aggressive, if it was bred to be aggressive, why is discussing the breed a bad thing?
The dog itself isn’t dangerous. It’s when the owner doesn’t raise them properly. When they’re bought by some trash human who bought them to look like they’re on a rap album cover from the late nineties. Those people are the problem, they’re the ones making the dog look bad. And it’s very sad for people that raise their dogs properly. They end up looking bad.
And they immediately have a knee jerk reaction of WHY ARE YOU SLAGGING MY DOG, MAN? Maybe because it’s getting annoying seeing a kids face get mangled by a dog that shouldn’t have been available to just anyone.
I don’t think need to ban them. But treat the dog like a gun. You want a pitbull, you gotta get trained on how to raise it. You gotta get certified.
You don’t get certified, that dog ain’t yours. If you love your dog and raise it properly this wouldn’t affect you anyways. But getting defensive and refusing to have the conversation will keep any positive change from happening and we’ll have to have the same pointless discussion when another get gets torn to pieces.
