GOOD IDEA –
Putting a woman on a Canadian bank note. I don’t mean the English woman whose Ancestors were just better at killing people than yours were, she’s already on all our coins. I mean a Canadian woman, one who was born here, who did ghreat things. Like fight for social causes, help those less fortunate, or maybe just wrote books that inspired millions.
I know this will wind up being a big argument, and I actually hope it does. An argument about what woman deserves to be on that bank note is a great thing, cause it will get people talking about what woman has impacted Canada more. And everyone will have different reasons, and HOPEFULLY it will inspire people to do some learning.
My pick would be Laura Secord … cause she was a spy and spies were bad ass. And her chocolate is awesome … even if it doesn’t have much to do with her except a name. Maybe Nellie McClung … one of the key figures and activists who got women the right to vote. You could argue for Emily Carr, the famous Canadian painter and author … There’s no right answer. Or maybe there is, I dunno.
I’m just excited the discussion is happening.
