Market research agency ICM Unlimited recently investigated trends among vinyl buyers, and shared the results with BBC News.
The results are… Not the most surprising, but still pretty interesting considering how much of a comeback vinyl has made in the past couple years.
1) Nearly half of vinyl buyers first streamed the albums that they eventually purchased.
2) The largest age group of purchasers is the 25-34 demographic.
3) The demand for vinyl continues to increase, approaching a 10-year trend.
Here’s where it gets really interesting: 48% of those who buy vinyl don’t even listen to the records, and that 7% of those people don’t even own a turntable!
So if someone drops an Ultimate Punch on ya to get their hands on Madonna’s Like A Virgin & Other Big Hits! today for Record Store Day 2016, know that they’re probably gonna use it for wall decorations.
Which honestly isn’t the worst idea. Album art makes for some killer decor.
