GOOD IDEA –
Being grateful. Your life isn’t that bad. It isn’t.
See, in an effort to be less physically repulsive to my wife I have added swimming to, my excessively mediocre exercise regime. While I was at the pool over the weekend a dude rolls in as I’m doing my last few laps. Literally rolls in, in a wheelchair.
He scuttles off the side of his char and pulls himself into the water, and then starts swimming. Now this dude is struggling in the water as he goes, but after every length of the pool he has a massive grin on his face and is talking to everyone. Like this guy is EVERYONE’S friend. And seeing him so happy, makes me feel like a bag of garbage for ever complaining.
When we were both at the same end of the pool he starts asking me about my tattoos, making jokes that he would be able to sit for hours at a time if he ever got his legs done cause he can’t feel anything. It was awesome. He went on to explain that he lost his ability to walk after being hit by a drunk driver while crossing the street. And when I asked him about how often he gets to the pool he says he NEEDS to come in at least once a week because it’s good for him psychologically. It’s the one place he can move freely without his wheelchair and it makes him feel whole.
It was one of those moments where you’re happy cause you can see how this guy is happy, but at the same time you feel guilty because of your lack of perspective.
So today, and every day. Be grateful. Cause life is good. And it could all change tomorrow.
