Democracy has failed.
Some time ago, Great Britain’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) asked the general public to vote on the name of their new £200 million polar research vessel that is going to sail the waters of Antarctica and the Arctic in 2019.
Out of several professional-sounding names, only one stood out.
Boaty McBoatface was killing it at the polls, and was destined to be the victor.
Until democracy failed.
NERC decided that Boaty McBoatface was not a suitable name for their super sciencey vessel, and went with the name RRS Sir David Attenborough.
The internet is up in arms.
Even James Hand, the guy who brilliantly suggested Boaty McBoatface, has chimed in.
