Ahhhh, Spring. The time when all of those hardworking bands emerge from their studio-hibernation and bring us some great new music.
With releases from Radiohead, Arkells, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more, this may have been the biggest music week of the year.
Following Radiohead’s social media blackout last week, they unleashed to the world two tracks, “Burn the Witch” and “Daydreaming”. The first songs from the band since 2011’s, The King of Limbs, Radiohead has finally broken their silence. With extensive touring this upcoming summer, and the new album to be released tomorrow, you can almost guarantee that this will be a huge year for Radiohead.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are back! With their last album, I’m with You, again from 2011, this is RHCP’s second LP with their current lineup, replacing guitarist John Frusciante with Josh Klinghoffer. Straying away from Rick Rubin, who produced Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication, By the Way, Stadium Arcadium, and I’m with You, RHCP recruited the help of producer Danger Mouse for their eleventh studio album, The Getaway. The lead single, “Dark Necessities”, carries the signature RHCP-sound, with Danger Mouse’s hand guiding the way.
The Arkells released the music video for, “Private School”, last night, which is the first single since 2014’s, High Noon. The boys from Hamilton bring back their upbeat pop-rock for the Summer of 2016. After the success of High Noon, the Arkells are hoping that is the start of something big, with the release of their 4th album expected to be out this summer.
Almost lost in the shuffle are the new tunes from Tegan and Sara, “U-turn” and “100X”. After the 2013’s breakthrough album, Hearthrob, the sister-duo will release Love You to Death this summer.
What do you think of 2016’s music class so far?
