France wants to ban after-hour and weekend emails! Loving France. They are about to create what could be the greatest labour law in decades. No after hours work e-mails.
Wouldn’t that be amazing? To know that when you left work, you really did leave work? How many times do you roll into the office and feel like you’re scrambling to get caught up because an e-mail was sent out by your boss after you’d left? Even though you’re done, you’re still expected to be working. How often do you respond to a co-worker over something from your phone and soon you’re dragged into a massive conversation making sure you’re cc-ing everyone.
You forget one person and it’s still your fault. Even though you left work four hours ago.
A law making that stuff illegal would be heaven. My dad would leave work and he was home, period. I can’t even imagine what that’s like. Thanks to e-mail I am literally working all day. First thing I do when I go to bed. E-mail. Last thing I do, e-mail. And I’m not alone. That’s culture these days. We’re connected all the time, and it’s like we’re expected to be. You’re looked down on if you’re not.
So today, and this weekend … embrace French Culture and don’t check your work e-mail AT ALL this weekend. Don’t text, anything. Take a French Vacation … it’s the future!
Do you think this is something Canada should do?
