Darcys are back!
On a warm Wednesday night in May, surrounded by palm trees and neon lights, Darcys were perfectly backdropped for their return at the Mod Club. The night, which was put on by Red Bull Sound Select, filled with fans early, taking in a short set from Toronto-local DCF, and some were also lucky enough be gifted a sweet “Darcys” fanny-pack.
As the anticipation, and the heat, seemed to hit its peak, Darcys hit the stage with their retro-tinged, alt-pop sound. If you haven’t seen them live, their sound could only be compared to those sunny days out on the beach in the summer. The band were sure to play their lead single, “Miracle”, from the upcoming album, but the band also teased the crowd with a bunch of new songs that will be featured on the new record. The boys from Darcys were also sure to throwback to a few of the old fan favourites, such as “The River”, “747s”, “Lost Dogfights”, and more, off of 2013’s, Warring. The new formation of the band, however, is definitely taking the direction of the band into a new atmosphere.
When the band downsized from a four-piece to a duo, back in 2014, drummer Wes Marksell stated that, “Jason (Couse) and I will live and die by our next record.” The band has not taken that statement lightly, pushing the sound of the band into a new, more focused direction from their previous records. With a new beginning for the Toronto-natives, Darcys are ready to take “Miracle” to the next level! Be sure to check them out this summer.
