Today is National Donut Day so it’s time to celebrate!!!
June 3rd is the day you can eat all the donuts your heart desires and feel great about it because,
a) It’s a national frickin’ day so it’s happening with or without you and
b) You’re helping the Salvation Army!
FuN fAcT: The Salvation Army created National Donut Day in 1938 to honour their Donut girls who lifted the spirits of soldiers during WW1!
Therefore, participating bakeries across the GTA are giving away free donuts for a small donation or putting a percentage of proceeds towards the Salvation Army! How sweet!
Top 5 Best Donuts
#5 Walnut Crunch
This is more of a tribute to the walnut crunch, as it’s been discontinued from a lot of Tim Hortons.
It does not look like a poop! It’s chocolatey and nutty and delicious.
It’s definitely not a conventional looking donut. It’s like a longer, thicker, brown piece of OK it kinda looks like poo.
But it tasted great. #RIP
#4 Toasted Coconut
This was mentioned by our intern and it’s definitely not a donut we can leave out.
It’s like an old fashioned plain donut with some tropical, fun coconut sprinkles on top. A vacation for your mouth.
#3 Apple Fritter
So on the Google, we found out that apparently there was a slang term for the apple fritter.
A french word “pete du nun”
Which translated into “nun farts”
Apple fritters.. the farts of nuns.
#2 Boston Cream
This is Mel’s favourite and it had to be mentioned otherwise I’d be castrated.
The Boston Cream is a classic donut anyway so I guess that’s fair.
#1 Maple Dip with BACON
Mmm… maple and bacon.
Probably the most Canadian donut of all time, seriously.
All locations are giving away free vanilla donuts and the option to donate to the Salvation Army.
Check them out at 376 College St.
They have these amazing maple bacon donuts. Maple bacon donuts are the best. *see above*
