A local tourism group is hoping that their idea to have flights going from Toronto to Muskoka will take-off.
“We’re developing a case to bring commercial air service to Muskoka,” James Murphy, executive director of Explorers’ Edge (no, not 102.1 the Edge).
There’s a meeting planned for June 23 with the District of Muskoka, when Explorers’ Edge will push the case for making minor upgrades to the local airport in Gravenhurst and seeking Transport Canada security screening authorization. Murphy notes that such places like Mont Tremblant have international flights, why not Muskoka?
They are hoping that they can get the flights up and running by 2017, which would go hand-in-hand with Canada’s 150th anniversary.
With a weekend like this weekend, where the DVP is closed for a bike race and construction, and the endless amounts of traffic on Friday/Sunday nights, it’s not exactly crazy to think that these flights would go unused.
Would you consider flying to Muskoka, to beat the weekend traffic?
