WayHome Music and Arts Festival has in only its second year become a leading music festival in North America. With a lineup featuring heavyweights like Arcade Fire, The Killers and LCD Soundsystem, fans from across the country partake in 3 days of music, art and food at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro Medonte (July 22-24).
Capitalizing on its immense success from the previous year, Thursday night’s kickoff event, the WayHome ArtWalk, invites guests to experience the environment they will be spending the next three days in. With massive art events, culinary experiences and music, The ArtWalk is both an introduction to this to the festival as well as a production all its own as 20,000 people are expected to preview the grounds.
The Music Component
Local Toronto boys, The Darcys will be setting the tone during the ArtWalk, performing their breezy, summer sound on the WayAway Stage with artistic elements built into their performance.
The Art Component
While the number of installations will be less, the sheer size of each has expanded to create a grander more immersive experience. ArtWalk guests will be treated to more interaction, vivid colour, higher quality and over the top content. Whether it is on one of the many stages, in the crowd or a part of freestanding structures, conversation pieces are at every glance.
Winning OCAD students will once again rise up to the challenge of building an art piece of epic proportions; both intellectual and functional, while returning artists will work alongside newcomers to provide guests with a complete festival experience.
The Food Component
Once again the VIP experience from The Drake will continue to tie in the live shows with their own curated art installations so guests don’t miss out on their favourite tunes while noshing on first class food. Art and artists in and around the 1920’s designed barn will further captivate your senses as its proximity to the main stage allows you a break from the masses without misses out on the experience.
The Feast in the Forest culinary experience will allow guests access to the backstage area for one night to dine in a natural woodland setting. Designed by the folks behind Charlie’s Burgers, a Toronto secret supper club, this event will be sold as an additional ticketed event that food and music lovers are will not want to miss.
After a successful inaugural year, the organizers have promised a bigger and better event without sacrificing the feeling that a music and arts festival of this magnitude is all about.
The ArtWalk runs on Thursday July 21st from 8pm-10pm
