Let there be rock!
Since the Kool Haus closed its doors two years ago, there hasn’t been a music venue in Toronto’s east end that has been able to fill the gap. If a new development group has their way, a brand spankin’ new music venue will be popping up in the Beaches.
A proposal to turn part of an off-track betting shop in the Beaches into a live performance venue has been approved by the city.
The venue, Champions Greenwood off-track betting shop at Queen Street East and Kingston Road, means some big acts could make their way to the Beaches. The proposal for the venue includes 150 shows per year, with space for 2,700 fans.
If the new venue will be a seated concert theater, it will be a welcome alternative for acts that may find the Sony Centre too big, and Massey Hall too expensive to sell tickets. If it turns out to be a standing room or mixed venue, it will also be valuable as the only mid-sized alternative to Sound Academy, with 500 less tickets to sell.
