Green Day, “Bang Bang”
Revolution Radio (Reprise)
Recommended If You Like: Well, duh.
Four years after the last round of Green Day records, the band is ready to respond to the currently US political climate with an American Idiot-like barrage. If there’s anything good to say about the US election is that it’s probably going to result in some interesting angry music. About time, too. The album is due October 7.
The Pack A.D., “Yes, I Know”
Positive Thinking (Cadence Music Group)
RIYL: White Stripes, Black Keys, Death from Above 1979
The fierce Vancouver-based garage rock duo of Maya and Becky released their sixth album this past Friday (August 12). Why is it that Canada does two-piece bands so well?
Dinosaur Jr. “Lost All Day”
Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not (Jagjaguar)
RIYL: Weezer, Japandroids, Nirvana
Wait: What year is it again? First it was a Green Day recommendation and now we’re talking about Dino Jr? Yep. J Mascis is still with us, some 32 years after the band was formed in Massachusetts. This is the kind of stuff that wanted Kurt Cobain and Rivers Cuomo alt-rockers.
BANKS, “Gemini Feed”
The Altar (Republic)
RIYL: Massive Attack, Fiona Apple, The Weeknd
The second single from BANKS’ second album—and with a much less NSFW title than “F*** With Myself”—will appear as the lead-off track when The Altar appears on September 30.
Warpaint, “New Song”
Heads Up (Rough Trade)
RIYL: Lights, Beach House, Bjork
LA quartet on album number three due September 23. If this sort of thing appeals to you, the record will be released as a double set on pink and black vinyl and will come with a bonus 7-inch single.
