If you haven’t seen the Netflix docu-series Making A Murderer yet, then I’d get right on that if I were you.
If you have watched it, then you know who Brendan Dassey is. He’s Steven Avery’s nephew who, like Avery, was sentenced for the murder of Leslie Halbach. The docu-series follows the life of Steven Avery after he is convicted of rape on a separate occasion, is then exonerated, and then thrown in jail for murder along with his nephew who is said to be an accomplice. The outrage surrounding the series is how it highlights the corruption within the Manitowoc Count Police. Coerced confessions and planted evidence is said to have been accepted into the trial and leads viewers to believe that both Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey are in fact innocent.
Recently, Dassey’s conviction was overturned and is set to be released. He could be out in as little as 90 days.
Do you think the show and the outrage had any influence on Dassey’s release?
