Here are our favourite stories of the day:
The Ghost Stealers
There are tourists stealing ghosts from pubs in the UK. Like this one:
An almost 800-year-old pub owner in Bolton, England is pissed at a Chinese tourist for supposedly stealing the ghost that once haunted the old tavern.
The tourist is also an artist and put the ghost in a jar in hopes to bring it along on their exhibition. The pub owner just wants his ghost to come home. What will come of this poor unfortunate soul??
The Celeb Subway Rider
So if you haven’t heard, Mayor John Tory recently rode the TTC subway in a car without working A/C to better understand the improvements our TTC still needs to make.
It gets better.
Yesterday, British actor Kiefer Sutherland, who is in Toronto to film his new show _, was spotted riding the TTC subway line too. Absolutely miserable, drenched in sweat, on one of our lovely un-airconditioned subway. The poor guy.
Kiefer Sutherland needs A/C! Let’s get on it!
The Baby Namer
16-year-old Beau Jessup from the UK has earned $82,000 CDN after creating a website called ‘Special Name‘ that helps Chinese parents choose appropriate English names for their babies.
This trend of Chinese parents choosing English names (in addition to their normal Chinese name) for themselves and their babies has been going on for a long time and they do it to make it easier for non-Chinese people to pronounce and relate to.
On the website, parents input their baby’s gender and choose a couple attributes they want their baby’s name to have, then the website generates three results and the parents choose.
This website does so well because it is cheaper and easier for these parents to use!
