You read that right.
Gord Downie has put together a collection of new songs, that will be accompanied by a graphic novel, to be released in October of this year.
Entitled Secret Path, it’s the story of a 12-year-old Ojibway boy who died from hunger and exposure after trying to find his way home from a residential school. Even after great struggles of his own, Gord is still finding ways to tell the stories of Canada.
Secret Path began as 10 poems written by Downie, and reworked as songs in November and December of 2013. Gord was so inspired by the story of Chanie (Charlie) Wenjack, that he felt compelled to share his story to Canadians, and the world.
The album has even inspired a animated film, that will be played on the CBC on October 23rd. Check out the trailer below…
The album will be released on October 18th, and all of the proceeds from the album and graphic novel will be going straight to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba.
We love you Gord!
