I don’t know what hole the critics have their heads in when they say, “ROCK IS DEAD!”, but clearly they have not been to a Band of Skulls show recently.
This three-piece group, from Southampton, England, may have had humble beginnings in the clubs of London, but now have venues packed with raving fans. Promoting the release of their fourth studio album, By Default (May 2016), bandmates Matt Hayward, Russell Marsden, and Emma Richardson, have been very busy over the past few months on their world tour. They had already finished off the first leg of the European tour when they made their way to The Opera House in Toronto, on Thursday, September 8th.
With Hayward’s signature guitar licks, Marsden keeping the sound tight on the drum kit, and Richardson more than filling out the rhythm section, this three-piece is practically larger than life. Playing such of their hits as “Sweet Sour”, “The Devil Takes Care of His Own”, and “You’re Not Pretty But You Got It Going On”, Band of Skulls’ live show is forced to be reckoned with. Finishing off the night with 2013’s “Asleep At the Wheel”, Band of Skulls left the night on a high-note, that will ring out until they grace our city again.
Band of Skulls continues their tour on the West coast of North America, before heading back to Europe in October. Road trip, anyone?
