This week gets an extra day thanks to Thanksgiving Monday which means a bit more time to enjoy some weird and wacky events.
Henderson Brewing, October 5
Have you ever been out a bar drinking your beer and thought “wouldn’t this be nicer with my dog?” Support a great cause; the Just Paws Animal Rescue, drink great beer and let you dog see where you go all those late nights. $1 of every beer goes to the charity and for $15 you get a pint and portrait with your furry friend.
Metro Convention Centre, October 5-6
Catering to professional and amateurs alike this massive two day event brings together everything you want to know about photo and video. Find a new camera, check out VR gear or try your hand at flying a drone, this event has it all. Admission is free.
The ROM, October 7
This week kicks off #FNLROMs’ tenth season with a big Thanks Canada party. Enjoy poutine, maple syrup, special exhibits and great entertainment all night long. Tickets ($15) are only available at the door so arrive early.

Formerly known as the Lightsaber Battle Toronto, Newmindspace brings you an massive neon sword fight. Bring your own to this free event or buy one ($10 or $5 early bird). Arrive at your destination by 8pm pick a side and draw your saber!

If you are not full up on turkey and pumpkin pie then head down for a Thanksgiving beer fest. Brewers like Beau’s, Muddy york, Junction, Left Field and more will all be on hand to make sure your long weekend ends on a high note. Admission is free, beer is not.

This week is National Mental Health Awareness week and Mindfest is the best way for you to learn more about this disease that strikes more people than you know. A full day mental health and awareness fair that brings you speakers, seminars and tons of information. A outdoor red carpet will be rolled out early in the day for the public to gather and watch as this years inductees arrive for the Gala reception. This year sees 7 Canadian greats receive the prestigious award from fashion-world icon Jeanne Beker to musician Corey Hart and hockey great Darryl Sittler.
Summerhill Market, October 7
Starting at 9 am you can order a pay-what-you-can donation (minimum $5) and receive a thanksgiving dinner complete with white and dark meat, apple, onion and sage dressing, maple roasted butternut squash, green beans and creamy mashed potatoes delivered straight to your door thanks to Summerhill Market and online grocery store Instabuggy . All proceeds go to Youth Without Shelter, an emergency shelter for youth 16-24 years old across the GTA. Dinners are limited so order yours early from Summerhill Market.
