Standing Rock is a Native American reserve located near North Dakota. Inhabitants of this land as well as outside supporters are protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline that would carry crude oil through the water supply in the Sioux reservation, thus threatening their access to clean water on their land.
Recently, protestors at Standing Rock have voiced frustration with some of the outsiders coming to Standing Rock to help with the fight. They say these people, who are mostly white, are only there to experience the culture and aren’t seriously there for the cause. Apparently these people are treating it like they’re at a festival, they’re doing drugs, drinking alcohol, and just having fun.
Just wanna note some white people -just showed up to Standing Rock- who want to spend donations on fluoride free water instead of tap.— Nihiixoohoothitho (@teeteeseiht) November 13, 2016
The Army Corps have told many camps to shut down and are determined to move forward with this plan. Read more about it here.
What do you think?
Are these people being too harsh or do they have a point?
