Penny Oleksiak, the swimmer who won four Olympic medals in Rio this summer, has been awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s athlete of the year!
No surprises there!
The Toronto Star award, named after former Toronto Star sports editor, is given to the most deserving Canadian athlete chosen by a panel of Canadian sports journalists.
Oleksiak was up against hockey player Sidney Crosby, Brooke Henderson (golfer), Aurelie Rivard (Paralympic swimmer), Andre De Grasse (sprinter), Milos Raonic (tennis player), and Derek Drouin (high jumper).
Here is Penny’s Olympic gold medal race. What a star.
