California-based company, Superflex, is currently working on making a wearable robotic exoskeleton. That’s right. It’s actually happening…humans merging with robots!
Not really, but that would be cool.
What’s actually happening is Superflex has created a product called the Biofidelic Actuated Exosuit – in other words, it’s a lightweight wearable robot suit. So cool!!
The suit is meant to be worn underneath your clothes and includes sensors that track posture and movement. The data is sent to the suit’s motors as well as an app for you to view your results. The suit can then adjust your posture and even help raise your arms.
This technology was originally intended for the military – actual superhero shit – but is now in the works for the elderly, athletes, construction workers and people with disabilities.
The CEO, Rich Mahoney, even said, “Our origins are in robotics, our future is as an apparel company.” The suit is expected to be ready to ship out to consumers in 2018.
I see real-life Iron Man in the very near future.
