David Blaine does some pretty insane things, but this time he’s literally putting his life on the line.
Dude’s gonna catch a bullet that’s been shot at him… With his mouth.
Or at least try.
His show Beyond Magic, which aired this week, showed a clip of him spitting out frogs to a live audience, which included David Beckham, The Sun reports. The bullet trick was the main event.
His first attempt at catching a bullet was back in 2010, but has now revamped the trick by pulling the trigger on himself… In front of 20,000 people at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Blaine prepared for the trick by letting his friends shoot him in the chest while wearing a bulletproof vest. Then he was fitted with a special gum shield to hold a metal cup that he’d use to catch the bullet, but apparently the cup was slipping from his mouth guard.
He pulled the trigger on himself and the bullet was shot into the cup – just as it was supposed to. Unfortunately, the gum shield shattered in the process – just as it wasn’t supposed to.
“Time just started to move really slow,” Blaine said. “When the bullet struck the cup, there was a high-pitched ringing in my ears and I felt an impact on the back of my throat. I was sure the bullet went right through my head and that I was dead. Suddenly I became aware of the pain and it brought me back. At that moment I realized that the mouth guard had shattered again, and I was alive.”
Doctors checked him out after the mishap and found he had a lacerated throat. Also, his friends want nothing to do with this stunt ever again.
Blaine still plans on catching a bullet on his upcoming world tour.
