A new project called Tags and the City has been published online to be documented both on its website and Instagram account. Basically, the idea is to replace the name of subway stops on city maps with the most popular Instagram hashtag in that area.
So far, they’ve mapped out 5 major cities – Berlin, London, Paris, San Francisco, New York – and their 100 most popular stops according to Instagram. For example, the Metro stop closest to the Louvre in Paris is referred to as #monalisa. But the most common pattern is stops based on what food is nearby…that needs to become a thing in Toronto.
I would say that this is a fantastic idea for tourists wanting to see the popular sights, but honestly, I just want to be able to map out what food is around me at all times.
Also, in case you didn’t notice in the first picture, I’m very curious about what is so intriguing about this #squirrel. London here I come
