It seems like with each coming year, another legendary Toronto music venue announces that their doors are closing.
And 2017 is no exception, as The Silver Dollar Room has just announced, via Exclaim!, that they will be shutting their doors sometime this Spring.
The longtime club-booker/promoter, Dan Burke, broke the news earlier this week.
“We know that our end date is probably May 1,” Burke explains. “The property owner has been planning a redevelopment for quite some time. It was approved by the city. It’s all been sorted out in the past few months.”
Built in 1958, to serve as a cocktail lounge to the adjacent hotel, the Silver Dollar quickly emerged as a great hangout for local jazz and blues musicians. As the years wore on, the Silver Dollar quickly expanded to many formats of music, but never lost its appeal as a go-to Toronto venue.
We will be sad to see it go!
