It’s that time of year everybody, where NASA shares with the world new, juicy details of discoveries they’ve made. Aliens anyone? They’ve made a ‘significant discovery outside of our solar system’, so we can only hope it’s cool news.
The press conference will be held tomorrow at 1pm. Topics of discussion will include info about exoplanets, and other planets that orbit stars other than our own sun. Yes people, there is only ONE star in our solar system. So when somebody tells you otherwise, now you know! NASA events are always exciting because nobody is ever sure what bombs are going to be dropped. Last year astronomers learned about Kepler-186f, an Earth-like planet orbiting a star in the “habitable zone” – Which is ‘the range of distance from a star where liquid water might pool on the surface of an orbiting planet’.. Science!
Planets are cool and all, but what would be truly amazing is if NASA mentioned life outside our universe. Space is INFINITE, and always expanding.. Are we alone? is a question that’s been asked again and again, so maybe this time NASA will have some news for us.. How cool would it be if NASA shared information with the world that would blow everyone’s mind?! Who knows what tomorrow’s conference may hold, but hopefully we learn something we don’t know.. Future space exploration is another great topic, especially outside of our own galaxy. Science fiction seems like its getting pretty real.
Do you know how far 1 light-year actually is?? It’s defined by how far a beam of light travels in one year – Which is about six trillion miles… only. Once you take in that tidbit of information, you can slowly begin to imagine how vast space actually is and how small we are. Think of the propulsion system it would take to carry a ship THAT far.. Maybe we’ve discovered alien technology, or better yet, maybe the aliens have shared their technology with us puny humans.
