This elementary school class in Ireland wasn’t down for the ‘typical’ fish-burial – aka, flushing it down the toilet – when their two class’ fish, Bubbles and Freddy, kicked the bucket.
So they decided the right thing to do was to give it a proper Viking-funeral: by building a tiny boat, and sending it down the river. Now they didn’t have a flaming arrow to ignite the pyre, but they did have a barbecue lighter!
One schoolboy said, “Now they’re mini ghosts rest in Valhalla. We will always remember them.”
“It was really exciting when we saw the boat burst into flames,” said the children. “It was pretty epic. We know they died, but we got to see them to go the place that they would have wanted. It made us feel a bit better when we saw them leaving for Valhalla, because they will be safe with the Viking Gods.”
I’m not sure they told them what Valhalla is all about, but it’s a lot cooler than just hanging about!
