K.Flay, “High Enough”
Every Where is Some Where (Interscope)
Recommended If You Like: Scorned women who rock
Kristine Meredith Flaherty’s second album won’t be out until April 7, but she’s off to a great start with “Blood in the Cut.” The second single from the record hopes to build on that momentum. At 31, she’s something of a late bloomer but you can bet she wants to make up for lost time.
Portugal. The Man, “Feel It Still”
RIYL: Bands who use punctuation awkwardly
Hailing from Wasillia, Alaska—the same town as Sarah Palin—Portugal. The Man (man, my spellcheck hates that name) is preparing to release their eighth album sometime later this year. It’s a substitute for an abandoned album called Gloomin’ + Doomin’, which will probably never see the light of day despite three years of work.
Overcoats, “Hold Me Close”
Young (Arts & Crafts)
RIYL: War on Drugs, Dirty Projectors, Cass McCombs
Folktronica (folk-soul?) from New York female duo with a debut record due April 21. Anyone catch them at the Horseshoe this past Saturday? They were in town performing with Tennis.
Amber Run, “No Answers”
For a Moment, I Was Lost (RCA)
RIYL: Radiohead (You’ll hear it right away), Foals, Young Empires
Four guys from Nottingham in the UK whose notoriety has been confined mainly to Britain and Ireland so far. This album had a digital release back in February but is set for a full physical release on Friday.
Lilianna Wilde, “Hollywood Hills”
Bad for You (Independent)
RIYL: Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Alessia Cara
She’s a singer! She’s a songwriter! She’s a…screenwriter? Lilianna was born in Mississauga but now lives in LA where he’s working in the movie biz with her brother. (Check out her IMDB entry.) That explains the single from this from a 7-song EP, huh?
