Green Day has sounded the gun of the revolution once again!
With the way things have been looking around the world, it was only a matter of time before Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool would pick up the revolution flag once again to shake up the masses. And shaken we were, at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre on March 20th, for their Revolution Radio Tour.
From “Basket Case” and “When I Come Around” to “Bang Bang” and “Still Breathing”, Green Day delved into the songbook to make sure there was something for everyone! But Billie Joe wasn’t satisfied with just delivering the music, as he took every opportunity to make sure that everyone was getting into the experience.
While a little tired of current events, Green Day’s energy was infectious onstage. “Who here is an old Green Day fan?” asked Billie Joe of the crowd, to which there was an emphatic response. And it seems that the band is a little jealous of Canadians, when Billie Joe admitted, “It must feel pretty good to be Canadian these days.” Could a possible move to their Northern-neighbour be in their future? (I’ve got a great pullout couch, guys!)
The overall message and feeling of the show was that of compassion, love and acceptance. Even though we are faced with diversity and division everyday, it was the music that brought us all together, and Green Day its facilitator. Billie Joe was constantly reminding the crowd that even though we are facing many challenges in total acceptance, we should not be discouraged to be who we truly want to be. Thank you to Green Day for making it an inclusive experience for everyone to enjoy!
