So United Airlines and every airline purposely overbooks most flights because stats show between 1 and 5 percent of people just don’t show up, and they want to make the most money. Also, when airlines need to re-position a flight crew, they need to put them on flights and get them to where they need to be. It’s in their best interest to bump a few people and pay them up to 4 times their ticket price in compensation than cancel an entire flight at the destination because they couldn’t move their crew there.
A doctor was asked to leave the flight. He said no. Police we’re called. This is what happened.
It’s an unsettling video to watch. Nobody really likes to see people get hurt unless they deserve it, and I’m on the fence if this guys deserved what he got here.
Devil’s Advocate bit here. It’s written in the law that if a flight crew wants you off the plane, you’re getting off the plane. End of story. I know there are some other contractual things that come with your ticket and stuff when you buy, but you’re not 100% guaranteed a seat on the majority of flights. The bottom line is if United says you’re getting the boot…YOU’RE GETTING THE BOOT!
Another issue is everyone online seems to be ripping in to United as if THEY attacked this man. If anything, people should be blaming the police. Sure we can start a conversation about why they didn’t just re-select another person after hearing this man’s story, but don’t blame the airline for his injuries.
The man did have a decent reason to need to get home. He is a doctor and had to see patients the next day. The craziest part of this whole thing is United let him back on the flight.
