Jude Law has been cast as young Dumbledore for the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. 10 years ago, J.K. Rowling revealed in a Q&A that Dumbledore was gay. She also shared that he was in love with Gellert Grindelwald, who he eventually defeated in a duel. Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, was Dumbledore’s “great tragedy.”
Many fans are already hoping to see an on-screen romance between Jude Law and Johnny Depp in the next Fantastic Beasts…can’t say they’re alone.
Jude Law & Johnny Depp together sounds like a dream of mine. Especially as they're supposed to be in love in the Harry Potter world 🔥🔥🔥— Keziah 💫 (@Keziahhhx) April 13, 2017
Grindelwald and Dumbledore better be legit gay in the next Fantastic Beasts movie or I'm boycotting it— . (@mittchgrassi) April 13, 2017
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t think Dumbledore will be portrayed as openly gay because of worldwide distribution issues. Remember when the live action Beauty and the Beast was banned from certain countries? Yeah, same problem here. It’s foreseen to be an issue once again in Malaysia, Kuwait and Russia.
However, when Rowling was questioned about the situation, she reminded us that this will only be the second film in a series.
“I would like to say because this is obviously a five-part story, there’s lots to unpack in that relationship.”
So hopefully, we will get to see a lot of progression in Dumbledore’s love life and plenty of on-screen romance.
