Torontonians are used to strange food coming in and out through the city but last week, I went somewhere truly unique. Popping up at a new location near Queen and Spadina, Junked Food Co. is a hidden gem that your inner child will die for.
They serve “fun inventive dishes, junked style”, and if you don’t know what that means, here is an example:
No, that is not cookie dough ice cream – that’s straight cookie dough in a cup. They’re called ‘Cookie Scoops’ and they come in flavours such as ‘Birthday Party’, ‘Chocolate Chip’, ‘Reese Lightning’, and my personal favourite (just because it’s so pretty)…cookie dough and soft serve!
They’ve even got lightboxes for you to take a picture of your artful dessert and post on Instagram, hashtag included.
Also, take a closer look at the washroom door. It’s amazing.
On top of lightboxes, they also have designated areas to take pics of your ‘junked food’ at the bar.
But back to focusing on the food, Cookie Scoops aren’t the only treat they have to offer…
Ever had a taco salad in a Doritos bag before? No? Didn’t think so.
Your eyes do not betray you, those are Cheetos inside a burrito.
Waffles for sandwiches and s’mores, cookie dough on donuts and in cups, food in Doritos bags, Cheetos in burritos…those are all desserts, right??
“Mac & Cheese”
Macaroni inside pizza doesn’t seem that weird anymore, but ‘Whack Mac’ is on a whole new level of food. Next time I go, I’m definitely trying this just so I can say I had a dish with both white chocolate and ketchup.
I think Junked Food Co. proved that different can be just what you’re craving. They’re located at 507 Queen St. W and absolutely worth stopping by.
