This is Gavel, the now Vice-Regal Dog of Queensland, and former police dog-trainee.
Apparently, Gavel wasn’t a good boy in training. He preferred getting belly tickles and scratches from strangers, rather than sniffing out drugs and catching crooks. I mean, that’s a good boy in my books. Who wouldn’t prefer that?
Sadly for Gavel, he had to be let go from his police duties in the middle of his dog training. He wouldn’t stay unemployed for long, as the Governor of Queensland bestowed him with the new title of Vice-Regal Dog.
The Vice-Regal Dog has some very important duties, including greeting visitors and attending official ceremonies. No one tell Gavel, but that sounds like a made-up job. The Governor of Queensland also adopted Gavel and made him a part of the family, permanently. Congrats on the promotion, little buddy!
