Foo Fighters, “The Sky is a Neighbourhood”
Concrete and Gold (Sony)
The first indication we had that the Foos were working on a new album was when Dave and Taylor debuted this song at a Sammy Hagar charity benefit earlier this year. Now we have the full-blown version of the song along with a video directed by Dave. And don’t forget to download the free Foo Fighters Constellation View so you can gaze at the stars in your neighbourhood whilst being serenaded by tiny Foos.
BØRNS, “Faded Heart”
RIYL: Psych kitsch
Where does someone like BØRNS fit in the universe? He’s really not sure, which seems to the basis of this weird and fun flamboyant performance set in a hotel out in the California desert. From the sounds of things, he’s spent the last couple of years researching early 70s glam (especially Bowie and T.Rex). We’ll find out for sure when the album arrives early next year.
Grace Mitchell, “Cali God”
RIYL: Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Halsey
This young (she’s 20) Australian-born, Portland, Oregon-raised singer-songwriter has already released two EPs after being signed at age 15. With her first full-length album on the way, expectations are hardly modest. This is one to watch.
Talk Show Host, “I Hate Men (I Hate All Men)”
Not Here to Make Friends (Fat Wreck Chords)
The first thing I thought when I saw this title was “What if it was called ‘I Hate Women (I Hate All Women)?’” But then I actually listened to the song and my attitude changed. You’ll see what I mean. Anyone else reminded of bands like Harvey Danger and Presidents of the USA?
Milk & Bone, “Daydream”
Canadian content this week comes from an electropop duo from Montreal. Both Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin are Francophone but sing in English. You might remember their debut album Little Mourning from when it was longlisted for the 2015 Polaris Music Prize. This is the first single from their coming second album.
