Cage the Elephant are without a doubt one of the coolest and most unique bands on the planet. At their core Cage the Elephant are this great guitar based rock n roll band but that core is wrapped in a fearlessness unmatched by seemingly any of their contemporaries. The Bowling Green’s sextuple burst on the scene in 2008 with their self titled debut; 4 records later not one is comparable to it’s predecessor – It will never fail to impress me that Cage The Elephant had the balls to recreate their sound on each of their first 4 records and somehow got better. It’s pretty easy for bands to fall in to a routine, fall in to a sound but Cage are always pushing the envelope.
2017 finds the band back in the spotlight with their first live album ‘Unpeeled’. The first single from ‘Unpeeled‘ is their outstanding raw cover of one of rock n rolls most underrated tunes.. Wreckless Eric’s ‘Whole Wide World‘
Pretty damn great cover, and live no less. I absolutely love it.. BUT is it the best cover of that song we’ve ever seen? Maybe not. Let me point you in the directions of something else I find to also be wildly underrated the 2006 Will Farrell flick ‘Stranger Than Fiction’..
I have to admit when I saw that movie back in ’06 it was the first time I’d ever heard that song and I fell in love immediately, so maybe that’s why I even bring it up now. Is it better than Cage the Elephants version? Probably not but I thought it was a cool little tid-bit never-the-less.
Honourable mention to the Proclaimers
HOWEVER before you say it obviously Wreckless Eric‘s version will always be the best..
Hey, good talk.
