The Kents, out of Lindsay, Ontario, released their EP Within Waves today! This record takes a bit of a turn from their hook-hungry indie pop 2016 debut EP, Waking, and onto a more alternative path. You can read The Kents own statement on the EP below.
“Through secluded cabins and cityscapes, Within Waves comes from searching for integrity in a social-media dominated environment and working through relationships in transitional times. We found inspiration through escaping crowded areas and embracing more simple, tranquil and beautiful places. We hope you enjoy.”
I would recommend this release if you listen to Foals, My Morning Jacket or Broken Social Scene. And if you get the chance, The Kents are not a show you want to miss. They’ve shared the stage with The Sheepdogs, The Trews, The Strumbellas, The Elwins, The Fast Romantics and Hollerado. Their Toronto EP release party will take place on November 17th at the Horseshoe Tavern, alongside more Canadian talent, including Toronto’s Common Deer.
The EP artwork was made by local Toronto artist, Robin Scott. You can see some of her other work here. Her art is also featured in the audio versions of “Is There Anyone?” and “Distant”.
We had the chance to hangout with The Kents before their CMW performance at The Mod Club earlier this year. If you missed the interview then, you can check it out below!
